Getting to know Virginia – VCU

So, I started a wonderful new job at VCU – Virginia Commonwealth University. It is a huge, sprawling, urban campus, actually, two campuses, and I walked around very briefly last week on my lunch break and took a few pictures.

This is the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart on the Monroe Campus. I wanted to walk around the whole thing, but the bus was coming and I was already running out of time. I’ll go back when the weather gets cooler.

Not sure what these buildings are, but they are across from the Capitol.

I think I took a tour of the Capitol building when I first moved here, guess I’ll need to go again.

I thought these shots were interesting, blending the old with the new.

There is a very quaint courtyard not too far from my office where a lot of people go to eat their lunch. It has a fountain, some statues, cute bistro tables and chairs, and a HUGE tree that offers shade.

You don’t have to look too far to see peaceful tranquility woven into the industrial chaos.

  1. These are GREAT pictures. I didn’t know these places existed and I did visit the Capitol Building in the past. Are some of those buildings Gothic Revival? Nice job!
